Part-time islander owns more than 75 vintage Santas
Why do I collect 1950s vintage Santas? Because of the island’s classic Victorian setting, I always think it’s Christmastime, and I’m always shopping.
My roly-poly Santa obsession started when I bumped into one at Collector’s Gallery on Postoffice Street in downtown Galveston. I now own more than 75, many harvested from local estate sales. But this is the first time they’ve bobbed merrily on the Gulf at sunset.
Curious beachgoers heard me exclaim ‘ere they jogged out of sight: “Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
