Reporter Erin Heffernan ventures out in search of fashionable people bringing their bold styles and unique looks to the Texas Coast.
Town: Galveston
Day job: Owner of Tangerine Boutique, 2218 Postoffice St. in Galveston’s downtown.
Where we spotted her: Helping customers find their perfect outfit in her island boutique.
What inspires her look: “Everything I wear comes from the shop. We definitely have a West Coast vibe — sort of bohemian contemporary.”
Opening her own boutique: “The store has been here for almost five years now. I called it Tangerine because I wanted something organic and earthy. Tangerines are fresh, they’re good for you, they are a great color. It’s nothing but good.”
Fashion inspiration: “I love natural and laid back women like Katharine Hepburn and Faye Dunaway. I also love the way Jennifer Aniston dresses — the way she can just wear a pair of jeans and a T-shirt and look great. I also love an outdoorsy style because I love to surf and skateboard. I love looks that you can tell make women feel good and able to do whatever they want wearing them.”
What she’s wearing:
• Top: Chan Luu silver tank top. “Chan Luu is one of my favorite brands here in the shop. She’s a great designer from LA. She makes really quality stuff, but also has a wonderful humanitarian mission that she is passionate about.”
• Jewelry: Chan Luu and Houston designer Rebecca Lankford ring, bracelets and necklaces.
• Jeans: Black jeans from Mother Denim. “Mother is a great brand that sort of mixes the best from Citizens of Humanity and 7 brand jeans. They’re really popular with customers here. They make a great pair of jeans.”
• Shoes: Koolaburra booties. “Koolaburra is a great brand out of Santa Barbara. I love these boots and I wear them all the time; that’s why they’re so worn out.”
