What Jim is wearing: Mardi Gras-themed purple shirt by Paradise Found, gray Haggar slacks, scarf with Mardi Gras colors and pink canvas Polo shoes. “I got the scarf in New Orleans at Perlis, a great shop that has a lot of Mardi Gras attire. I bought the pink shoes to wear at a fundraiser for breast cancer.” Photo by Irene Amiet
Each month, Coast Monthly peeks into the closets of some of the most fashionable people on the upper Texas Coast.

What Jim is wearing: Custom-made Evening Elite tux; white formal shirt with French cuffs by Perry Ellis; black onyx and rhinestone cuff links by Doni Barassi; sequin tie in Mardi Gras colors; black palm leaf fedora hat by Sunbody; and Lucchese Classics boots. “My tux is a shawl design, as opposed to wide lapels. The boots are pretty interesting in that the top is made of stingray, which is great for Chicago weather. I travel there often in the dead of winter, and salt is put down to melt the ice and snow. Since stingrays live in saltwater, the boots hold up really well. I got the sequin tie in New Orleans specifically for Mardi Gras — you can get away with wearing anything there.” Photo by Irene Amiet

Tan straw-brimmed hat by Bailey of Hollywood: “This is very lightweight —good for wearing on the coast as it gives lots of protection from the sun, much more so than ball caps.”
Tori Richard “Boat Day Aloha” Hawaiian shirt: “This is a great tropical shirt with colorful island scenes, including a large lei on the back. Cotton Lawn is a weave that Tori Richard uses to give it a lighter feel.”

Black elephant handmade boots by Rodney Ammons in Dallas: “These were given to me as a gift by the Texas Medical Association staff in recognition of when I was president of the American Medical Association 2009-10. The year I was president of the Texas Medical Association, 2000-01, is on the right boot and the year I was AMA president is on the left. When they gave me the boots, they said, ‘We always want you to remember that the TMA will always be on your right.’”
Jerry Garcia ties: From left: Dawn at the Ritz-Carlton Collection Eight; Birdland Collection 62; and Duckworm Alarm Collection 58. “I wore the horizontal striped tie at the White House in 2009 when I met President Obama. I was president-elect of the American Medical Association and represented them as the physician component to interact with the President about what we could do to lower health care costs. I have about 40 Jerry Garcia ties; even though I was not a Grateful Dead fan — I just love the vibrant colors and patterns.”
Pink flamingo and green turtle socks: “Since I wear a size 15 shoe, it’s hard to find socks that fit. I found these at the ‘big and tall’ department at Nordstrom in Chicago.”
