Santa Fe family enjoys roping and rodeos together
Craig and Randi Miller met in their teens through roping.
Randi’s brother was Craig’s roping partner. Fast forward a few years, and the Millers, with their 14-year-old daughter Aspen, travel across the state from rodeo to rodeo, practicing their craft. The family travels the rodeo circuit, and it takes them from home most of the year.
“It’s more than a hobby,” Craig Miller said. “It’s a lifestyle.”
Miller began roping when he was about 5 — his family was involved in the sport — and Randi started at about age 14, right about the time she met Craig. They were both involved in high school rodeos and the days of roping and riding didn’t end there.
It’s the appeal of the family spending time together that keeps the pair involved, Randi said. The couple hits the trail with Aspen, and father and daughter sometimes participate in team roping competitions.
The rodeo circuit is tightknit, the couple agrees.
“It’s a big family,” Craig Miller said. “I could knock on any door in the state, and it would be opened.”
