Each month, Coast Monthly visits with some of the most charming people on the Texas Coast to chat about their style.
Although born in Texas City, Barbara Morgan has spent most of her life in Dickinson where she has established herself as a woman about town, active in her church and a fixture at one of the local dress shops, where she drops by often to see what’s new. She loves to take cruises and her most memorable one was to Alaska, she said. But when she jets off across the pond, she enjoys Europe and the Holy Land, she said.
Morgan also likes to shop on The Strand in downtown Galveston, take a trolley ride and dine at Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant on the seawall to watch the Gulf waves roll in. But when she’s at home, she likes to spend quality time with family, she said.
Favoring pants, long skirts and matching tops, Morgan is wild about Kendra Scott and has a vast collection of that designer’s jewelry. She shuns the ordinary and is drawn to anything with color, she said.
This fall, she’ll be wearing coats below the knee and floral sweaters.
Here are a few of her favorite things:
Stuffed animal: My son, Carlton, passed away six years ago. He had a black Lab, so this reminds me of him.
Bracelet and earrings: I got these in Jerusalem during a trip to the Holy Land. They’re encrusted with rubies and other gems and have a matching necklace. When I saw the set, it really spoke to me.
Earrings: These are by Kendra Scott, one of my favorite jewelry designers. I have a large collection of Kendra Scott, but this pair I wear a lot. The style is Emmie Drop and the color is Azalea Illusion.
Necklace: I got this at Four Seasons Boutique in Dickinson. The owner calls me when something comes in that she knows I’ll like. This elongated beaded necklace with all the different colors is perfect for the fall.
Shoes: I love these shoes by J.Reneé. They’re my favorite pair because of the floral embroidered pattern with so much color. They’re comfortable and go with everything.
Figurine: I have a large collection of these, called All God’s Children. This one is named Gina and she is a fashionista like me, but I love them all.
Jacket: This is by Valentina and includes a shell underneath. It will be great for fall, has see-through sleeves, and the colors pop, plus is beaded throughout.
Coco: I love my dog. I got him in 2015 and he is my best friend. He’s a wonderful companion.
