The United Way of Galveston kicked off its 96th annual Workplace Giving Campaign with a luncheon Sept. 5 at the Moody Gardens Hotel in the Frances Anne Moody Ballroom. This event marks the annual combined meeting of the Rotary Club of Galveston and the Rotary Club of Galveston Island. United Way board President Dominic Etienne welcomed about 350 guests to the luncheon. Rabbi Matt Cohen said grace before lunch was served. Guest speakers included Angela Wilson, community news editor for The Daily News, and The Rev. Richard Rhoades, of First Lutheran Church Galveston. United Way President-elect Kimberly Danesi regaled the audience with stories of her childhood and her family’s involvement with community service.
