Each month, Coast Monthly visits with some of the most charming people on the Texas Coast to chat about their style.

Loretta Trevino grew up in Seattle, but has called Galveston home since 1970 and wouldn’t trade island living for anything, she said.
Trevino combines two careers — hair stylist and artist — and finds beauty in all things unadorned and stark, she said.
“I am fascinated by lonesome beach houses, but also fashionable dresses — two of the things I love to paint,” she said.
Her heroes are all the women who have beaten breast cancer, she said.
“I cut hair with my chemo pack on and I’m a survivor myself,” she said.
Her favorite thing about Galveston is Coast Monthly magazine because of the features and recipes, she said. This winter, she’ll be wearing lots of sweaters, particularly those with scoop or V-necks to show off her jewelry.
“I like to be adventurous with my wardrobe and incorporate new things into the mix,” she said. “Fashion is the way you present yourself to the world — it’s pure artistry.”
Here are a few of her favorite things:
Beaded purse with tassel: This is my favorite evening bag. I love the way it feels and its vintage look. I wore it with my outfit to a recent gala at The Bryan Museum.
Collar necklace: I don’t see this type of jewelry worn on others very often. The green, gold, brass and silver beads go really well over solid colors.
Leopard coat: Animal print never goes out of style and goes with everything. I’ll wear this a lot this winter when the weather is not too chilly.
Shawl: A friend gave this to me, so it’s special. I love the fringe and the dark colors of red, green and gold. I like to pair this with something “out of the box.”
Black hat: My husband bought me this felt, bowler hat recently that will be great for the winter months. I like the gray floral cutouts that pop; so he did good.
Painting: This is an example of the beach houses I paint. This one is on the Bolivar Peninsula that I finished about a year ago. It just spoke to me, because it was standing alone.
Teapot: I just had to have this, because orange is absolutely one of my favorite colors. It’s associated with joy, sunshine and the tropics.
Vest: This is a fun fashion item by Kenneth Cole. I like the open neckline, plus it can be worn any season. The faux fur changes the look of any outfit and gives it some style.
