The Ivy Isle Foundation of Texas, charitable partner of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Beta Phi Omega Chapter, presented its 34th annual Mardi Gras Gala “Light Up the Night” on Feb. 22 at the Galveston Island Convention Center at The San Luis Resort.
Guests were treated to jazzy tunes played by The Pink Sand Brass Band. The sold-out event also featured a seated dinner and live entertainment by Galveston native Ahmed No Egos & The No Egos Movement featuring Nesha Cortez. The evening culminated with the crowning of the 2020 Mardi Gras Queen: JaKarla Spiller of Houston. Other queen contestants included The Daily News Community News Editor Angela Wilson, Kimberly Patrick, Lamica Mackey-Davis, Angela Nauls, Samquita Rubin, Tamara Harvey and DeAngela Williams.
