Add some spice to your summertime shrimp game
When I think about seafood and summer on the upper Texas coast, my mind immediately gravitates toward shrimp. The delicious crustaceans are the foundation of our coastal cuisine, and rightfully so. This bacon-wrapped shrimp skewer recipe will make them taste even better, and add some tangy spice to your summertime shrimp game.
The glaze that gives this dish a flavorsome kick is downright easy to make, and it’s composed of only two ingredients — yellow mustard and hot sauce. I prefer to use the Louisiana Original Hot sauce. Just mix the two together until you achieve the taste you desire.
Add a little more hot sauce to increase the heat, or go heavy on the mustard for a tangier punch.
Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp Skewers
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
24 ounces thick-cut bacon
Louisiana Brand Original Hot Sauce
Salt and pepper the shrimp to taste. Wrap each shrimp in bacon and place it on a skewer.
For the sauce, combine yellow mustard and Louisiana Original Hot Sauce in a small bowl. Add more mustard or hot sauce as necessary until the desired blend of a spicy, tangy taste is achieved.
Grill on medium heat (300-350 F) for 10 minutes. Then, baste each skewer with the mustard/hot sauce mixture and flip, basting the other side.
Continue to grill the skewers for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the edges of the bacon appear crispy and the shrimp appear white.
Remove the skewers from the grill. Serve and enjoy.
