Island attorney and his family make good use of their Sea Ray SLX
Whether he was watching his parents out on the water, or going out and tubing, Jonathan Zendeh Del never was far from boats when he was growing up in Galveston.
And it was always one kind of boat, specifically a Sea Ray. The Zendeh Del family, from his childhood all the way through his young adulthood, always have owned one Sea Ray boat or another, he said.
That lifelong love is why the search for his family’s current boat wasn’t much of a search at all. Rather, it was a simple upgrade. In fact, before his current one, he had a smaller model, he said.
“I’ve just always been kind of partial to that brand,” he said. “They’re nice, well-made boats.”
Sea Ray Boats was founded in 1959 in Detroit. In 1986, the company was acquired by Brunswick Corp. for $350 million and eventually grew to produce more than 28,000 boats a year.
Zendeh Del, an attorney, named the boat Galv Law.
Zendeh Del recently installed a boat ramp at his law office on 61st Street in Galveston so he can boat to work each morning on his 29½-foot Sea Ray SLX, he said.
The boat features an 8.2-liter motor and can reach cruising speeds of about 58 knots, Zendeh Del said. It has the same hull as a 30-foot cabin cruiser.
“We take it out on weekends, full of tubes, wakeboards and water skis,” he said. “Before all this COVID stuff happened, we’d often take the boat right up to restaurants.”
Zendeh Del wasn’t quite sure what to consider the boat because calling it a ski boat, a pleasure boat or cruising boat, all would be accurate.
The Sea Ray’s webpage describes the SLX series as luxury boats, crafted for excellence.
Zendeh Del first bought the boat about five years ago, he said. At the time, he owned an 18-foot Sea Ray model.
“It was a fun boat,” he said. “We had a lot of fun, taking it out a ton of times. But we wanted something newer, bigger and nicer.”
Whether he’s traveling between work and home — starting the day out on the water — or spending the weekend having fun with the family, he now has that perfect Sea Ray boat for the time, he said.
