The Daily News named retired teacher and fundraiser Barbara Jane “B.J.” Herz its Citizen of the Year during a virtual/hybrid event Aug. 20 at Sea Star Base Galveston. For the first time, The Daily News invited the public to nominate individuals for the award. The newspaper honored 20 finalists during the event, which was live-streamed on galvnews.com.
